Wellington Property Outlook

Dave Grimmond from Greater Wellington Regional Council will discuss economic and employment forecasts for the Wellington region, plus some discussion around infrastructure projects in the region, to build a picture of which parts of the region are most likely to prosper or flatline. Following this, Josh Patterson from Wellington City Council will present the way the council are changing the district plan, to allow for greater intensification. Put together, this will paint an interesting picture of the future Wellington investing landscape.

Dave Grimmond is an applied economist specialising in:

  • Model development and forecasting
  • Project assessment
  • Macroeconomics
  • Labour market
  • Public policy

Since the middle of 2016 he has been the Greater Wellington Regional Council economist.   This is his first stint in local government after a 30+ year career that has been split between private sector economic consulting (NZIER and Infometrics) and public policy roles (Treasury and Department of Labour).

Joshua Patterson - WCC

Planning Advisor at Wellington City Council in the Place Planning Team. Josh is involved in a number of District Plan projects including the development of Special Housing Areas, the development of Medium Density Residential Areas, and the monitoring of City development trends. Josh is currently working on fulfilling the requirements of the National Policy Statement on Urban Development Capacity. This involves the development of a housing capacity model to assess the amount of feasible residential development capacity available under the current District plan.
